Piero Corvetto: Request to Reschedule Summons for Electoral Investigation

The head of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Piero Corvetto, has requested the National Police of Peru (PNP) to reschedule his summons to testify in connection with the investigations related to the general elections of April 12. The hearing was originally set for April 17, but Corvetto argued that delays in the delivery of electoral materials justify this request. Through a document submitted by his legal defense, Corvetto requested that his testimony be conducted virtually for health reasons.

In the same document, there is also reference to a preliminary investigation initiated by the National Justice Board (JNJ), which grants him a period of ten working days to submit a report with relevant evidence. Corvetto had been summoned by the PNP’s Anti-Corruption Directorate due to alleged collusion offenses to the detriment of the State related to this case. In his defense, the head of the ONPE has denied the existence of serious irregularities, attributing the situation to an ‘extraordinary punctual error’ in the Electoral Management Department. As previously mentioned, the investigation has also led to Corvetto being summoned under the warning of compulsory attendance, in compliance with the relevant articles of Legislative Decree 957.
