The Government of Peru has implemented a new regulation for the Private Special Economic Zones (ZEEP), published by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur). This regulation aims to stimulate investment and reactivate productive activity in a context of low economic growth. The ZEEP are specific areas where companies can operate under favorable conditions, including tax and customs benefits.
The law establishes investment requirements, job creation, and productive development, seeking to attract new capital and diversify the export offer. The regulation, backed by President José María Balcázar, details the procedure for the creation and operation of these zones, as well as the selection of private operators who must invest at least 1,500 UIT in the first two years.
Additionally, it is expected that the established companies will generate new productive units and comply with environmental standards. Companies that set up in the ZEEP will enjoy a special tax regime, with an exemption from the Income Tax during the first five years, followed by a progressive rate. This initiative aims not only to attract investment but also to generate quality employment and productive linkages in the country.
