A pickup truck struck three cleaning workers from the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima (MML) on the night of Friday, March 20, in the Cercado de Lima. The incident occurred at the intersection of Alfonso Ugarte Avenue and Huancavelica Street when the vehicle sped into the workers who were collecting waste.
The injured individuals, identified as Luis Ángel Campos Sánchez (31), Javier Armando Cortez Panez (20), and Luis Miller Campos Urquia (39), were transported to nearby hospitals by firefighters and municipal security personnel. Although they were initially diagnosed with various injuries, they were discharged in the early morning hours and will be reevaluated in the coming days.
The driver, Renzo Jesús Novoa Odicio (41), was arrested by the National Police and is under investigation. Witnesses to the accident reported that the vehicle, with license plate BNM-397, may have crashed into a wall before hitting the workers. Security cameras in the area captured the moment of the accident, and authorities are continuing their efforts to clarify the events and assign responsibilities.
The MML confirmed that the workers had medical insurance and were using the appropriate safety equipment at the time of the accident.
