Cosmetologist Dies After Attack by Ex-Partner: Suspect at Large and Sought by Police

Yanet Urbano, a 32-year-old cosmetologist, passed away after spending more than three weeks in the Intensive Care Unit of Arzobispo Loayza Hospital. Her death was due to severe injuries, primarily burns, sustained during an attack by her ex-partner, Luis Andrés Flores Julca, who is currently at large. The attack occurred on April 11 in Surquillo, when Flores Julca entered Urbano’s room and left her in critical condition before setting the house on fire.

Initial investigations suggest that the attack may have been premeditated, supported by security camera footage that captured the suspect with his face covered and carrying dangerous objects. Authorities suspect that the assailant may have fled to Argentina, although the victim’s family believes he could also be attempting to reach Spain.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP) has requested his inclusion on the most-wanted list, which would facilitate the capture of the suspect. Yanet Urbano’s remains are being mourned in the district of Mi Perú, in Callao, and her burial will take place in Cañete. This case adds to the alarming figure of up to 38 femicides recorded in 2026, a topic that has raised concern in society.
