On April 22, health workers from Central Lima staged a demonstration in front of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) to demand an increase in the budget that affects their salaries and the quality of services. Union leader Bella Herrera reported that the lack of resources has caused delays in payments, especially for staff contracted through third parties, who have not received their salaries since February.
“We are demanding the release of the budget for the additional demand, as many payments depend on it,” expressed Herrera, who lamented that they have not been attended to by the minister during the protest. She also mentioned that there are inequalities in labor benefits, such as the food card that is not provided at health centers.
The lack of incentives and outstanding payments affects not only the morale of the staff but also patient care. “Workers feel dissatisfied, which impacts the quality of care and response times,” warned the union representative. The workers insist on the need for an urgent meeting with Minsa authorities to resolve these issues. “We are in coordination, but we are still waiting for a response,” concluded Herrera. This mobilization adds to other demands that have arisen in the health sector, as seen in recent situations related to Minsa management.
