Gas Leak in Surquillo TODAY: Evacuation and Emergency Measures on Av. República de Panamá

A gas leak has caused alarm in Surquillo, specifically on block 50 of Avenida República de Panamá. The incident, which occurred at 9:15 a.m. on April 20, took place amid construction work, prompting authorities to activate safety protocols. Eight units from the General Fire Corps have been deployed to the area to manage the situation. As a precautionary measure, workers and residents within a 300-meter radius were evacuated, and traffic on nearby streets was restricted to avoid any risk of explosion.

Osinergmin, the agency responsible for overseeing gas supply safety, is monitoring the actions of the company Cálidda. The leak originated from a broken pipeline, and gas supply in the area has been cut off while the emergency is being controlled. Although nearby gas stations were not affected, their operations have been suspended as part of contingency plans. This event adds to other recent incidents in Surquillo, such as the seizure of electoral materials, which has also raised concerns in the community.
