Family members of Alexander Taboada Sirlupú, a Peruvian fisherman missing in Chile, have urgently requested the support of the Peruvian Foreign Ministry. Taboada, originally from San Juan de Miraflores, was last seen on March 24 in the Coquimbo area when his boat capsized due to strong winds. According to relatives, the Chilean Navy initiated an operation that resulted in the discovery of two deceased crew members, but Taboada has yet to be located.
This Monday, March 30, Chilean authorities decided to suspend search efforts, which has generated increasing desperation among his family, who are calling for the expansion of operations. A relative, speaking to the media, made a direct appeal to Foreign Minister Hugo de Zela, requesting the intervention of the Peruvian government to send a specialized diving team and resume the search. “As a family, we ask for an extension to find my brother,” they expressed. Although the chances of finding him alive are minimal, the main goal is to recover his body and give him a dignified burial in his home country.
Relatives continue to await a response from the Foreign Ministry to coordinate actions with Chilean authorities and fulfill this humanitarian request.
