The Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU) has imposed a fine of S/16,500 on Janet Vargas Chávez for providing informal taxi services in Lurín. This sanction amounts to 3 Tax Units (UIT) and is broken down into S/11,500 for the vehicle owner and S/5,500 for the driver.
Vargas Chávez, who was operating at the corner of San Pedro, requested the annulment of the fine, citing her economic situation. “I am a single mother, and this activity is my only means of work,” she expressed in an interview. The fine, which she received on March 10, poses a serious problem for her, as she is purchasing the car in installments and fears losing it.
The driver mentioned that she was forced to work informally after being a victim of a robbery while performing her duties as a taxi driver. Despite the challenges, Vargas Chávez expressed her willingness to formalize her activity and avoid future sanctions.
