Huallaga River Reaches Critical Point and Senamhi Issues Flood Alert in Huánuco

The Huallaga River reached a critical level in the early hours of March 24, raising concerns in the Huánuco region. The National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) reported that the flow exceeded the red threshold, indicating a high risk of overflow and emergencies in nearby areas. According to the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru (Senamhi), the river level was recorded at 1,817.31 meters above sea level at the Taruca station, located in the district of Santa María del Valle.

This increase in flow has led authorities to identify several potentially affected areas, including Taruca, Chunapampa, and Huánuco, among others. Officials have issued recommendations to the public, urging them to avoid approaching the riverbanks and to suspend activities near the watercourse. It is also advised to identify evacuation routes and seek shelter in safe areas if the situation worsens.

This event adds to the existing infrastructure and connectivity issues faced by various localities, as highlighted in the recent emergency declaration due to rainfall in several districts across the country, including Lima.
