17-Year-Old Student from Carabayllo Enters Medical School on First Attempt at San Marcos

Jair Eidan Arredondo Ibarra, a 17-year-old student from Carabayllo, has achieved a milestone by gaining admission to the Human Medicine program at the National University of San Marcos (UNMSM) on his first application. With a score of 1,283 on the 2026-II admission exam, Arredondo recently completed his secondary education at Juan Pablo Peregrino school.

Despite his parents having different professions, Jair was drawn to the health field. “For me, it’s not just a science discipline, but a profession where we can connect with people,” he commented in an interview.

His preparation began in the second year of secondary school, and his commitment led him to participate in an academic circle, extending his school day from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. In the months leading up to the exam, his routine became more intense after moving to Santa Anita, which required him to wake up at 5 a.m. and travel daily to school.

Together with him, his classmate Jhamir Rondan Martel also gained admission to Medicine. Other students from the same school, such as Luana Huamán and Ninel Cruz, secured spots in Nursing and Obstetrics, respectively.
