Ten people lost their lives and at least 14 were injured in an accident that occurred in Chicla when a minivan veered off the road and fell approximately 80 meters on the way to Marcapomacocha. The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, March 22, around 5:00 a.m., and the vehicle was carrying 27 passengers who apparently departed from Lima. The vehicle, with license plate CHS-453 and belonging to the company Adventure Travelero Perú, was on a tourist trip to the Llaguapucro lagoon.
According to the Ministry of Health (Minsa), the driver, Jacinto Vidal Navarro Aroni, 63, is the only identified victim so far. Most of the injured were transferred to hospitals in the region, including the San Juan de Matucana Hospital and the National Hospital Hipólito Unanue. Authorities, including the National Police of Peru and local rescue personnel, arrived at the scene to carry out rescue operations.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, while Minsa confirmed that seven of the victims died at the scene and the rest in hospitals, according to a report from the Emergency and Disaster Monitoring Team (EMED) of Health Huarochirí.
