Emergency: Los Libertadores Route Declared in Crisis Due to Indefinite Strike Over Poor Conditions

The government has declared a state of emergency for the Los Libertadores route, specifically in the section connecting San Clemente in Pisco with the Ayacucho region. This decision was made following the announcement of an indefinite strike by transporters, who began blocking the road at midnight on March 23 due to the critical deterioration of the roadway.

Through Ministerial Resolution No. 155-2026-MTC/01.02, published in the official newspaper El Peruano, it is established that the measure will last for 180 days. Its objective is to carry out interventions that ensure transitability and improve the conditions of land transport services. The deterioration of the road includes serious issues such as settlements, soil instability, and partial collapses.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications, 77 permits have been issued to companies to allow 205 vehicles to circulate on the route, transporting approximately 146,511 users. However, the interruption of transit severely affects these users. Edwin Canales, president of the Heavy Cargo Transporters Association of Ayacucho, highlighted that transporters from Junín, Huancavelica, and Apurímac have joined the protests, which include a symbolic engine shutdown to demand urgent intervention from the Central Government.
