Keiko Fujimori, presidential candidate for Fuerza Popular, harshly criticized prosecutor José Domingo Pérez, who was recently not ratified as anti-corruption prosecutor by the National Justice Board (JNJ). In statements made from Rímac, where she met with representatives of the National Federation of Emolienteros and Related Workers of Peru, Fujimori asserted that Pérez has harmed her environment and Peruvian democracy. “It is true that he has caused me a lot of harm, to my family, and to more than 40 families of Fuerza Popular, but above all, he has caused a lot of harm to our democracy,” Fujimori expressed.
During her speech, the candidate also hinted that Pérez seeks to “victimize himself” in the eyes of the public. The JNJ’s decision has generated reactions from various human rights organizations, which consider that Pérez’s non-ratification is an attack on judicial independence. Groups such as the Center for Justice and International Law and the Human Rights Association questioned the lack of guarantees in the process, asserting that he was not allowed to exercise his right to defense. This incident adds to a series of decisions that, according to these organizations, have weakened the fight against corruption in the country, such as the dissolution of the special Lava Jato team in January 2026.
