The official counting of ballots for the 2026 General Elections is progressing, with 94.632% of the ballots already counted, according to the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE). So far, 87,786 ballots have been processed, while 4,980 are still pending submission to the Special Electoral Jury (JEE). The counting process has been marked by incidents related to electoral materials. For the first time, the National Jury of Elections (JNE) is conducting a recount of the observed ballots, following reports of inconsistencies from various political groups. The hearings are being held virtually, with the participation of representatives and observers. Additionally, Piero Corvetto, head of the ONPE, has submitted his resignation amid this context, raising further expectations regarding the final results. The JNE estimates that the results of the presidential election will be ready by mid-May.
