Vote Count TODAY: Transparency Demands JNE and ONPE Respect Electoral Schedule

The Civil Association Transparency made an urgent call to the National Jury of Elections (JNE) and the new authorities of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) to continue the electoral process transparently. In a statement issued on April 22, the organization emphasized the need to complete the vote count from the first round and to respect the established schedule for the presidential runoff.

The organization warned that any alteration in the electoral process could compromise its legitimacy and added that it is crucial to regain the trust of the citizens, especially following the logistical failures observed on April 12. The resignation of Piero Corvetto as head of the ONPE, amid questions regarding delays in the distribution of electoral materials, intensified concerns about the current situation of the elections.

In this regard, the new interim head of the ONPE, Bernardo Pachas Serrano, stated that he will take corrective measures to improve electoral services and ensure transparency in the procurement processes of goods and services. To this end, he called on the General Comptroller of the Republic to participate in the supervision of these processes, thus seeking to restore citizens’ trust.
