2026 Vote Count: Who Will Advance to the Runoff Between Sánchez and López Aliaga

The vote count and the resolution of over 5,400 contested ballots are at the heart of the electoral debate between Roberto Sánchez and Rafael López Aliaga, following the elections on April 12 and 13. So far, with 93.058% of the ballots counted by the ONPE, Sánchez leads with 11.973% (1,880,266 votes) while López Aliaga closely follows with 11.930% (1,873,567 votes). The difference is only 6,699 votes, making the outcome crucial in determining who will advance to the runoff on June 7.

López Aliaga has promoted the idea of electoral fraud, offering S/20,000 to anyone who can provide information supporting his claims. In response, Sánchez has insisted that any concerns about the process must be backed by evidence and not by payments. The contested ballots mainly come from Lima, Piura, and La Libertad, and their resolution will be fundamental.

Sánchez’s party, Juntos por el Perú, has supported a report from the European Union’s Electoral Observation Mission that dismisses irregularities in the elections, emphasizing that democracy is defended with data and not narratives, as highlighted by the leader of Fuerza Popular, Keiko Fujimori.
