During a press conference, presidential candidate Roberto Sánchez of Juntos por el Perú criticized the statements made by his opponent Rafael López Aliaga regarding the National Jury of Elections (JNE), in which he suggested electoral fraud without presenting concrete evidence. Sánchez argued that if a candidate from his circle had made such claims, investigations by the Prosecutor’s Office would already be underway.
“I would like to know if a Quispe or a Palomino had made those insults that Mr. López Aliaga says about any authority. I assure you that they would have opened investigation files on their own initiative,” Sánchez stated, emphasizing the perception of unequal treatment in Peruvian politics.
Additionally, Sánchez rejected the classist and racist comments that arise in political discussions, stressing that there is no justification for discriminating against anyone. “We want justice, democracy, and equality,” the candidate added, insisting on the need for a respectful and equitable debate.
