Crime Budget: New Strategy by Balcázar and Working Group

The government of José María Balcázar has established a new working group focused on creating a budget dedicated to public safety and the fight against crime. This team, which will operate for a period of 330 days, will be chaired by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and will include participation from various institutions such as the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), the Ministry of the Interior, and the National Police of Peru, among others.

The main mission of this group is to design a budgetary program that not only involves expenditures but also yields tangible results in the community. The resolution that establishes this team emphasizes the importance of demonstrating a real impact on the population as part of the government’s security strategy.

In addition to the aforementioned entities, representatives from the Public Ministry, the Judiciary, the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), and the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance, and AFP (SBS), among others, will join this initiative. This effort comes at a critical time as the government seeks to recalibrate support in Congress following the recent first electoral round, as we reported in this note on the economic proposals of the candidates for Parliament.
