Carlos Álvarez’s Proposal: Complete Secondary Education with Advanced English for the Entire Country

The presidential candidate Carlos Álvarez, from the País para Todos party, proposed to offer complete secondary education with advanced English in schools across the country. During the presidential debate, Álvarez stated: “No young person should be left without an education due to lack of resources.” He also suggested that if there are structural problems in schools, improvements could be made through the tax system.

However, the proposal has generated criticism. Ricardo Cuenca, former Minister of Education, argued that its implementation is unfeasible due to the lack of qualified teachers and the need to reorganize the curriculum. “For this to work, it is essential to have qualified teachers and an appropriate pedagogical model,” Cuenca pointed out.

On the other hand, Juan Sheput, also from the País para Todos party, defended the idea, suggesting that the use of digital resources and virtual classrooms could facilitate language learning. “With platforms like Perú Educa, we can extend English teaching to secondary levels,” he indicated.

Despite the enthusiasm for the proposal, it is not included in Álvarez’s government plan, raising questions about its long-term viability. Meanwhile, attention is focused on how these initiatives will influence the upcoming elections.
