The congressman from Peru Libre, Segundo Montalvo, has called on presidential candidate Vladimir Cerrón to participate in the electoral debate scheduled for this Tuesday. Just hours before the second round of the event, Montalvo emphasized that the Constitution protects Cerrón’s right to run, despite the ongoing investigation against him related to the ‘Dinámicos del centro’ case, which has resulted in 24 months of preventive detention. “It is his right; the Political Constitution protects him,” Montalvo stated in an interview with RPP.
The former regional governor of Junín is currently embroiled in a legal process but has filed a habeas corpus with the Constitutional Court to annul the restrictive measure. Montalvo underscored the importance of Cerrón presenting his proposals to the electorate, stressing that “there will be no arrest warrant that prevents his right to choose and be chosen.” The second round of the debate will take place at the Lima Convention Center and will feature 34 presidential candidates. Topics to be discussed include ‘Education, Innovation, and Technology,’ as well as ‘Employment, Development, and Entrepreneurship.’ According to the draw, Cerrón will participate this Tuesday.
