Roger Arévalo, New President of Petroperú: Facing Sexual Harassment Allegations and Odebrecht Case

The new president of Petroperú, Roger Arévalo, is facing serious accusations that cast doubt on his appointment. Since 2019, he has been under investigation for a sexual harassment complaint filed by a 20-year-old employee, which is still pending with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Violence Against Women in Lima. According to the submitted document, Arévalo was accused of inappropriate behavior and non-consensual physical advances in a work environment. This situation is exacerbated by the power dynamics between the two parties.

In addition to this allegation, Arévalo is linked to an investigation related to the Odebrecht case, where his name appears in proceedings concerning alleged irregularities in contracts with the Brazilian construction company. On the same day he assumed office, a hearing took place in the Judiciary discussing his role as an economic expert in arbitrations related to Odebrecht. The Prosecutor’s Office claims that his reports may have benefited the company, causing harm to the Peruvian state.

This situation raises questions about the criteria used for his selection at Petroperú, especially at a critical time for the company. So far, there has been no final statement regarding the accusations against him.
