Puno: Subprefect Punished with Whippings for Supporting Keiko Fujimori

The subprefect of Macarí, Fredy Condori Yucra, was detained and punished by the peasant patrols of Puno after attending a campaign event for Keiko Fujimori, the presidential candidate of Fuerza Popular. The incident occurred in the plaza of Macarí, where the official was subjected to whippings and physical exercises as part of his punishment. The head of the patrols expressed her discontent, stating that Condori Yucra had made a grave mistake by meeting with Fujimori.

Despite the subprefect arguing that he no longer held his position, the community leader insisted that he was still part of the local authority and that his behavior had harmed the community. During the punishment, Condori Yucra had to perform planks and other exercises while being reprimanded by the patrol member. At the end, he was ordered to leave the plaza, being told that his behavior was unacceptable and reminded of the negative impact of Fujimori’s politics on the local population.

This episode highlights the political tension in the region, where officials’ decisions are closely monitored by the community. This incident adds to the growing polarization in the political arena, as evidenced by recent polls, where Fujimori and López Aliaga are stagnating, while Carlos Álvarez is rising in preferences, according to a report by Datum.
