Peruvian youths aged 18 and older will be able to vote in the upcoming General Elections on April 12 with their expired yellow ID. This provision was announced by the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) through Chief Resolution No. 000039-2026/JNAC/RENIEC, published on March 30. The measure aims to facilitate electoral participation and ensure that formal requirements do not limit the exercise of fundamental rights.
Young people who still possess the yellow ID and have not updated their document will be able to vote, as will those with an expired blue ID or an expired electronic document. According to the electoral roll, as of October 14, 2025, there were 103,827 citizens with underage IDs, of which 66,236 belong to the 18 to 20 age group. Reniec also reminded that young people can opt for the adult ID from the age of 17, without having to wait until they turn 18.
