The governor of Piura, Luis Neyra, will meet with the Minister of Health, Juan Velasco, to request a budget that will allow the continuation of four hospitals that have been stalled for almost five years. The construction projects in Ayabaca, Huarmaca, Huancabamba, and Los Algarrobos are at a standstill, despite a legislative decree that prioritizes projects that are over 50% completed. Neyra mentioned that the technical file to complete the work in Los Algarrobos has already been finalized, and the one for Huarmaca is nearing completion. “Unfortunately, the stipulations in the decree have not been fulfilled,” emphasized the governor.
For his part, Minister Velasco announced the arrival of 30 PCR test kits for the diagnosis of leptospirosis, a disease that has resulted in three fatalities in the region, with 54 probable cases and 28 confirmed. Thanks to these new kits, the diagnostic time will be reduced from 10 to 15 days to just 48 hours. Additionally, Velasco assured that the total budget for the Comprehensive Health Insurance has been transferred to all regions of Peru, including Piura. During his visit, he also referred to the commencement of construction of the High-Complexity Hospital, which will begin this Friday.
