JNE Accredits 7 International Organizations as Electoral Observers

The National Jury of Elections (JNE) has accredited seven international organizations as observers for the general elections scheduled for April 12, 2026. This decision aims to strengthen the legitimacy of the electoral process, especially in light of the fraud allegations that emerged after the 2021 elections from Fuerza Popular and its allies.

The accredited organizations include the Human Rights Clinic of Seville, the Council of Electoral Experts of Latin America (Ceela), and the Foundation Disenso, among others. The JNE assured that the participation of these entities will not incur costs to the state and will help ensure transparency and public trust in the Peruvian electoral system.

Some of these organizations, such as Ceela and Aglojoven, already have experience in electoral processes in Peru, while others, like the Brazilian Academy of Electoral and Political Law, will participate in the country for the first time. Additionally, the Electoral Observation Mission of the OAS and the European Union are also in the country to oversee the development of the elections.

The presence of international observers is considered crucial to ensure that the process proceeds smoothly, especially following past controversies. As we reported in this note, the JNE aims to prevent the recurrence of fraud narratives that marred previous elections.
