2026 Elections: JNE Launches Presidential Debate with 35 Candidates on March 23

The day of March 23 marks the beginning of the 2026 presidential debate, a crucial event for voters to evaluate the candidates’ proposals. On this first date, 11 candidates will gather at the Lima Convention Center as part of a series organized by the National Jury of Elections (JNE). With a total of 35 candidates in the running, the JNE has structured the debate across six dates.

This initial session will feature four thematic blocks, addressing relevant issues such as public safety and the fight against corruption. Each candidate will have the opportunity to present their plans and respond to questions from the audience. Among the first participants are Marisol Pérez Tello and José Luna, who will represent different ideological stances. Pérez Tello aims to highlight the ‘decency’ of her proposal, while Luna will focus on his populist discourse on economic issues.

The day promises to be intense, as candidates seek to capture the attention of the electorate ahead of the elections on April 12. For more details on the topics and candidates that will face off in the upcoming dates, you can read this article.
