In the early hours of last Tuesday, an imported clothing store in Chiclayo, Lambayeque, was the target of an attack when criminals detonated a pyrotechnic device at its facade. The store, located on the third block of Elías Aguirre Street, suffered significant damage, including the destruction of its metal door and broken glass in nearby galleries. The explosion caused alarm among local merchants, who quickly alerted the police.
Agents from the Explosive Disposal Unit (UDEX) and the Criminalistics unit arrived to collect evidence from the incident. According to General Luis Bolaños, head of the Lambayeque police region, this act is being investigated as a possible extortion threat, linked to the owner’s refusal to pay protection fees. “It may be a form of preemptive threat that extortionists are using to later demand illicit money,” Bolaños stated.
So far, the police have reviewed security cameras, which show a person leaving a black bag at the scene of the attack. Neighbors have requested increased police presence in the area, an important commercial center of the city.
