Serfor Seizes Endangered Animals in Caravelí, Both Alive and Taxidermied

The intervention by Serfor in Caravelí has revealed the alarming situation of wildlife in the region. During the operation, 11 live animals and several taxidermied species that are endangered were seized. Luis Gonzales Dueñas, Head of Serfor Arequipa, reported that four of the seven species of skins and remains found on the farm are protected by the State.

Among the rescued animals were macaws, parrots, and turtles, which were living in inadequate conditions and suffering from mistreatment. After veterinary examinations, it was confirmed that the macaws were in serious health condition, with issues such as clipped feathers and beak deformities.

Additionally, parts of taxidermied animals, including jaguars and caimans, were found in an alternative medicine shop in downtown Caravelí. Gonzales Dueñas stated that such crimes, which include the possession and commercialization of wildlife, are unacceptable and will be punished according to the law. Those responsible will face an administrative process for serious violations, with fines that could reach up to 27 million soles, according to the current regulatory framework.
