U.S.: Two Dead in Collision Between Plane and Fire Truck at New York Airport

A tragic accident occurred on the night of March 22 at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, where an Air Canada plane collided with a fire truck. The impact, which took place around 11:40 PM, resulted in two fatalities, identified as the pilot and co-pilot of the Jazz Aviation flight, and at least two injuries in the emergency vehicle.

According to flight tracking service Flightradar24, the aircraft was traveling at approximately 210 kilometers per hour at the time of the crash. Images of the collision show severe damage to the front of the plane. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has suspended flights at LaGuardia, which will remain closed until Monday afternoon to facilitate investigations.

Jazz Aviation issued a statement confirming that flight 8646, which originated from Montreal, was carrying 72 passengers and 4 crew members. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has dispatched a team to the scene to investigate the causes of the accident. This incident comes at a time when U.S. airports are facing tensions due to a lack of funding from the Department of Homeland Security, leading to staffing issues and delays at various facilities, as reported in this note.
