The President of China, Xi Jinping, stated that his country “will always be a good friend and partner” of the nations of Latin America and the Caribbean. This message was conveyed in a congratulatory statement on the occasion of the X Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), which was inaugurated in Colombia.
Xi highlighted the progress in the relationship between China and Celac, especially following the IV Ministerial Meeting of the China-Celac Forum held in Beijing in May 2025. During that meeting, a cooperation agenda was agreed upon, covering five areas: unity, development, civilization, peace, and exchanges between peoples.
During the meeting, an action plan for the period 2025-2027 was approved, which includes around one hundred projects and a credit line of 60 billion yuan (376 million dollars). This effort reflects the growing economic and political ties between both regions, in a global context marked by trade tensions.
The day in Bogotá also included the High-Level Celac–Africa Forum, where representatives from both regions came together to reject domination in its various forms. At this event, Colombia handed over the pro tempore presidency to Uruguay.
