The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, denied on Monday reports indicating that he was in negotiations with the United States to reach a ceasefire. In a message posted on the social media platform X, Ghalibaf stated: “No negotiations have taken place with the United States, and false news is being used to manipulate financial and oil markets.”
Ghalibaf, a former commander of the Revolutionary Guard, emphasized that “the Iranian people demand full punishment for the aggressors” and assured that Iranian authorities remain firm in their stance. This statement comes amid rising tensions between the two countries, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding negotiations with an unidentified Iranian politician.
The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baghaei, also denied that there are ongoing talks, although he admitted that they have received messages from the United States through intermediaries. According to Baghaei, Iran’s position regarding the Strait of Hormuz and the conditions for ending the conflict remains unchanged.
Tensions between the two nations have escalated significantly, especially following the deployment of U.S. military forces in the region. In this context, the situation remains critical, with Trump warning of acting “quickly and violently” if an agreement limiting Iran’s nuclear program is not reached.
