The National Police of Peru dismantled the criminal gang known as ‘Los Miserables del Sur’ in an operation carried out on April 23, 2026, in the human settlement Costa Peruana, located in Chorrillos. During this intervention, seven alleged members of the organization were arrested; they were engaged in extorting transporters and micro-trafficking drugs. During the operation, agents found firearms, dynamite cartridges, four mobile phones, and illicit substances. Threatening notes directed at several transport lines operating in the area, such as line 14, line E, and line T, were also discovered. General Jorge Luis Castillo Vargas, head of the Lima Centro Police Region, shared one of the extortion messages, which contained death threats to the transporters. The detainees, considered highly dangerous, have criminal records, including aggravated robbery and drug trafficking. Some had already served prison sentences of up to 14 years. All those captured were transferred to the Depincri headquarters in Chorrillos to continue the corresponding investigations.
