The Bolivian national team is one step away from qualifying for the 2026 World Cup after their 2-1 victory against Suriname in the intercontinental playoff. The match, held last Thursday in Monterrey, left an atmosphere of optimism, although coach Óscar Villegas urged caution regarding what lies ahead.
In a press conference, Villegas highlighted the performance of Moisés Paniagua, who scored the equalizing goal in the second half. “Paniagua and Godoy came in well to secure the victory. Here we always emphasize that there are no substitutes. Those who don’t start are solutions that allow us to change the team’s dynamics,” commented the coach.
The coach also underscored the character of his squad, mentioning that “being here, with the maturity of these young players, makes us dream and believe.” Despite the joy, the focus remains on the next challenge against Iraq, scheduled for Tuesday, March 31. “We depend on ourselves and we can be protagonists,” he concluded.
