French Federation Profiles Zinedine Zidane as Replacement for Didier Deschamps

The possibility of Zinedine Zidane taking over the management of the French National Team is gaining momentum as the 2026 World Cup approaches. Although there has been no official announcement, the president of the French Football Federation (FFF), Philippe Diallo, has hinted that he already knows the successor to Didier Deschamps, who announced his decision not to continue after the tournament.

In an interview with Le Figaro, Diallo mentioned that he has the name of the new coach, suggesting that negotiations with Zidane have progressed positively. “The French national team is one of the best in the world and cannot be left in the hands of just anyone,” he stated, indicating that specific characteristics are needed for the position.

French media have been clear about the FFF’s intentions, highlighting that Zidane has been in talks to carry out a project with a broader coaching staff than that of Deschamps. After 14 years in the role, the former Real Madrid coach could embark on a new chapter at the helm of the ‘bleus’, a team with which Zidane has had a special connection.

The situation is constantly evolving, and expectations are rising regarding the direction French football will take in the coming months, especially following the impact Deschamps had on the team.
