Judith Sequeiros Sharik Arévalo, the new vocalist of Corazón Serrano, recently made her debut on national television, generating a flood of reactions on social media. The 19-year-old was introduced as the winner of a casting call that attracted hundreds of applicants, but her first appearance on the show América Hoy was marked by some missteps in choreography.
Edwin Guerrero, the director and music producer of the group, came to Arévalo’s defense, arguing that her lack of experience in the cumbia genre has posed a challenge. “She has never sung cumbia, nor has she danced cumbia, so this is something new,” Guerrero commented. He emphasized that the young woman’s voice is one of her main talents, although her adaptation to the group’s style will require time and practice.
During a live broadcast on TikTok, Guerrero explained that the lack of synchronization in her performance was due to a pause in rehearsals caused by the singer’s health issues. Despite the criticism, he expressed confidence in her dedication and commitment, stating that “she is a very responsible girl, always present, and very diligent.” This situation has led the group to have high expectations regarding her development within the band.
