The annual income tax declaration campaign for individuals will begin on March 31, as announced by the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat). This year, the process will be entirely virtual, using a form that includes preloaded information on income, withholdings, and deductible expenses. Sunat’s Taxpayer Services professional, Pamela Caballero, explained that taxpayers will need to use form 709, available on the agency’s portal. The declaration will follow a schedule of deadlines based on each person’s RUC number.
Those required to declare include self-employed workers, individuals with rental income, and employees with deductible expenses. Caballero also emphasized that those who only receive income through payroll must declare if they wish to deduct expenses such as housing rent. The system will allow taxpayers to review and validate their information before submitting their declaration.
In the event of a credit balance, a refund can be requested automatically, which will be deposited into a registered bank account via the Interbank Account Code (CCI). For more details on the declaration process, you can check the deadline schedule on the Sunat portal, which aims to simplify compliance with tax obligations through digital tools.
