AAP to Candidates: “It is Necessary to Organize Traffic and Modernize Transportation”

The Automotive Association of Peru (AAP) issued a call to candidates in the upcoming elections, stating that organizing traffic and modernizing transportation are urgent tasks for the country. According to the AAP, congestion in Lima results in annual losses close to S/ 20 billion, which represents approximately 2% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Jaime Graña Belmont, General Manager of the AAP, emphasized that transportation should not be viewed as a secondary issue. “When a citizen loses hours in traffic, their productivity and quality of life are affected,” he stated. The association also highlighted that the aging vehicle fleet, with an average age of over 14 years, exacerbates the situation.

The AAP stressed the need for a comprehensive approach that includes modern public transportation and road safety. In this regard, Graña reminded that the next government must prioritize transportation at the same level as other fundamental sectors such as health and education. Furthermore, the lack of a clear regulatory framework for electromobility limits progress towards a more sustainable transportation system.
