Since its premiere in August 2025 in Juliaca, the documentary Uyariy, directed by Javier Corcuera, has been acclaimed by both audiences and critics. This work has been recognized as the best Peruvian film of the year at the APRECI Awards. On April 9, it premiered in commercial theaters in Spain, thus expanding its international reach.
Corcuera has expressed that although Uyariy addresses a massacre that occurred in Peru, its message is universal. “What has happened in Peru is happening around the world. There is a disregard for others, a systematic violation of human rights,” the director stated in a recent interview.
In the context of its screening, a march was held in Juliaca, organized by the families of the victims, seeking justice and visibility for their story. The director also emphasized the importance of emotion in cinema, highlighting that Uyariy is a film of dignity and courage. “Films may not change the world, but they can change the people who can change the world,” concluded Corcuera. With sold-out shows in Spain, interest in the documentary continues to grow, reflecting a deep connection with the audience.
