The municipal stadium San Genaro, located in Chorrillos, is in a critical state after more than ten years of abandonment. Inaugurated in 2012 with an investment of over S/18 million, the facility never operated as a sports complex. Currently, its infrastructure is deteriorating and lacks the necessary technical documentation to certify its construction. The project, which was managed by former mayor Augusto Miyashiro, does not have technical files or invoices to justify the use of allocated resources. According to the Ministry of Economy, the amount allocated to the stadium exceeds S/18.3 million, although some reports raise the figure to nearly S/28 million. This lack of transparency has left the project in a state of uncertainty. Today, San Genaro Stadium has become a dumping ground, affecting the quality of life for local residents, who have reported the accumulation of waste and foul odors. The Municipality of Chorrillos has commissioned a technical study to assess structural damage and determine whether to reinforce the construction or proceed with its demolition. The stadium’s proximity to homes and the coastline adds an additional risk in case of emergencies.
