Anomalous Waves on the Peruvian Coast TODAY: Navy Alert Until April 30

The Peruvian coast is under alert for anomalous waves, as reported by the Peruvian Navy. This phenomenon, which will last until April 30, has caused an increase in wave height, reaching up to double its usual size. Since April 23, sea conditions have affected various maritime activities, including port operations and artisanal fishing. The variations in wave patterns are most noticeable in the central and southern regions of the country, where restrictions have been established in ports, posing risks to coastal communities.

In Chimbote, more than 2,000 fishermen have suspended their activities due to these adverse conditions. Fishing activities have been severely impacted, limiting local supply and forcing reliance on products from other regions of the country. According to the Hydrography and Navigation Directorate, light wave conditions prevail in the north of the country, while a shift to moderate waves is expected in the center starting April 26. In the south, a similar pattern is anticipated, with increasing wave activity from April 25. These conditions will be monitored until normalization.
