Workers in Peru are preparing for a new long holiday that will last for three days, encompassing both the public and private sectors. The next national holiday will be on Friday, May 1, Labor Day, creating an extended weekend for those who do not work that day. The coincidence of this holiday with the weekend allows many to plan personal activities or trips without needing to request additional days off.
Those who work during holidays without receiving compensatory time off will be entitled to additional pay, which includes their daily salary plus a 100% surcharge. For example, if a worker earns S/1,500 per month, their payment for working on a holiday would be S/200.
Additionally, the 2026 calendar includes other important dates such as June 7 (Battle of Arica and Flag Day), June 29 (Saint Peter and Saint Paul), and National Holidays (July 28 and 29), which will also provide opportunities for rest.
