An oil spill was recorded in the Norperuano Pipeline on March 31, specifically in Section II, at kilometer 393+674. The incident occurred in the Pantaam sector, near the hamlet of Alan García Pérez, in the district of Nieva, Amazonas. According to the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN), the crude oil reached a nearby stream, raising concerns about the environmental impact in the region.
Petroperú, the operator of the pipeline, reported that it was able to control the spill thanks to the activation of its Emergency Response Plan. Specialized brigades managed to seal the pipeline, which was allegedly punctured by third parties using mechanical tools. “We will initiate the necessary actions to carry out First Response efforts,” the company assured in a statement.
Additionally, Petroperú has notified entities such as the Environmental Assessment and Oversight Agency (OEFA) and Osinergmin about the incident. The company has also filed complaints with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Environmental Matters (FEMA). It is important to note that Section II has been suspended since July 12, 2024, due to low crude oil levels at Station 5.
