The retired sub-officer of the National Police, Santiago More Ríos, turned himself in on the night of last Friday at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dirincri) in Lima, after being a fugitive for 35 days. More Ríos is linked to the murder of lawyer Andrea Vidal, which occurred on December 10, 2024. The police had issued an arrest warrant against him and his son, David More Calderón, who was detained on March 15 while attempting to flee to Ecuador. They are accused of providing the murderers of Vidal with a cloned vehicle plate, which was used to follow her from her home in San Miguel to the location where she was killed in La Victoria.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the More family had cloned at least 250 license plates at the request of criminal organizations. The Police General Inspectorate confirmed that Santiago More was expelled from the institution due to his involvement in forgery and corruption crimes. Police sources indicated that the crime could be linked to a criminal organization, which will help advance the identification of the intellectual and material authors of the murder. As reported in this note, this case has generated significant media attention.
