Six months after the inauguration of a road project in Villa María del Triunfo by Rafael López Aliaga, the project has yet to commence. The construction of a 3-kilometer road, which was expected to cost over S/16 million, was announced with great anticipation, but to date, no progress has been observed on the site.
On October 10, 2025, López Aliaga laid the first stone, promising to improve the connection between several streets and Unión Avenue. However, the project, formalized through a contract on September 26, 2025, shows a progress rate of 0%, according to public works records. The project, which was supposed to be completed by February 2026, has not seen any machinery or personnel working on-site.
Residents, who are facing traffic issues and precarious conditions, express their frustration. “It’s concerning. Since they laid the first stone, nothing has progressed,” stated Leoniza Villena, president of a local organization. The lack of information and action has left the community in uncertainty, while dust and mud continue to affect their daily lives.
Amid this situation, López Aliaga is campaigning for election, promising to be the “president of the poor.” However, the reality in Villa María del Triunfo contrasts with these promises, as the project remains stalled.
