2026 Elections: López Aliaga Proposes Military Service with Minimum Wage and Beca 18

During a rally in Chulucanas, Piura, presidential candidate Rafael López Aliaga of Renovación Popular proposed a voluntary military service that would offer a minimum wage, along with the establishment of Beca 18. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of young people participating in the construction of infrastructure, such as highways and hospitals, while receiving military training. “We are going to militarize the country with well-paid voluntary military service,” López Aliaga assured.

He also mentioned his plan to create a prison in the Amazon for those sentenced to life imprisonment for serious crimes, such as extortion and corruption, seeking a tougher approach to citizen security issues. Additionally, the candidate promised to increase the pension of Pensión 65 to 500 soles and to offer loans to informal workers through the Banco de la Nación, with accessible rates and no need for guarantees. This proposal aims to support the workers who generate 85% of employment in the country.

For farmers, López Aliaga committed to having the state purchase their products at fair prices, partly destined for schools, as a measure to combat anemia, according to his speech.
