The presidential candidate of Alianza para el Progreso (APP), César Acuña, announced his intention to sue Fernando Olivera for defamation following accusations made during the first presidential debate on March 23. Acuña believes that Olivera’s claims regarding his wealth are completely false. In a message posted on his X account (formerly Twitter), Acuña stated that his legal team will proceed with the complaint. “The offense to my honor and that of my family will not go unpunished. My wealth has been built through work, effort, and education,” he wrote, reaffirming his commitment to seek justice.
Olivera, the candidate from the Frente de la Esperanza 2021, accused Acuña of leading a “criminal organization” and linked him to drug traffickers, claiming that his fortune should be investigated. During the debate, he mentioned that Acuña had used his university as a “laundromat” and accused him of extorting his students and workers to attend his rallies. These accusations have sparked a strong confrontation between the two candidates in the context of the 2026 General Elections.
