The Cusco Police confirmed the discovery of the dismembered body of Rudhy Benavides Charalla, 46, who had been reported missing since April 18. The gruesome find was made in a house on the extension of Avenida Ejército, in the Asociación Los Manantiales del Inca. The head of the Cusco Police Region, Carlos Guizado, reported that the human remains were found distributed in pots inside a kitchen. Additionally, six dogs were discovered that may have been fed with parts of the corpse. “There were two metal pots with human remains in a state of cooking. This could indicate possible cannibalism,” Guizado stated at a press conference.
The National Police arrested two young men, Gabriel Alexis Luis Condori Olmedo and Óscar Franco Tinco, both 21, who allegedly confessed to their involvement in the murder. The detainees, who will remain in preliminary detention for seven days, recounted that they shared alcoholic beverages with the victim that night before committing the crime. According to reports, one of them cut the victim’s throat with a knife, while the other struck him several times on the head with a hammer. Benavides’ family reported him missing six days after his last appearance, as they stated he had a habit of being absent for long periods.
