Jorge Rodríguez of Los Mirlos: Why It Is Important to Choose Leaders Wisely

The Amazon cumbia group Los Mirlos presents their new album, which includes international collaborations and celebrates their success at festivals like Coachella. However, the group’s founder, Jorge Rodríguez, also speaks out about the current situation in Peru, marked by violence and social crisis. “I hope we can choose our representatives wisely, those who will govern our country,” Rodríguez states, emphasizing the need for change so that the population can live in peace. In his view, laws must be more effective in protecting citizens, as insecurity affects daily life.

In addition to their commitment to music, Los Mirlos plans a tour in Chile and Argentina, and they have a new book titled El cantar de Los Mirlos in the works. Rodríguez mentions that, despite opportunities abroad, “our center of operations will be Peru,” reaffirming their connection to the country. This call for reflection on the choice of leaders comes in a context where violence has even impacted artists like the members of Agua Marina, who were injured during a concert, as previously reported.
