The National Army of Colombia conducted the rescue of five children and an 18-year-old young woman in the jungle of Caquetá, who had been hidden by their parents to prevent their recruitment by dissident FARC groups. The operation was carried out following the release of the parents, who had been kidnapped and held captive, and who decided to alert the authorities about their children’s situation.
The minors, aged between 3 and 18 years, were found in a rural area of Cartagena del Chocó. General Edilberto Cortés highlighted the father’s collaboration, who managed to communicate with his children to guide the soldiers to their location. Thanks to this coordination, the rescue was carried out without incident, and the children were taken to a safe place where they received medical attention and food.
The Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez, condemned the actions of the armed group, emphasizing that they threaten the lives of farmers in the region. The operation, planned in a security council, involved various entities, including the Red Cross and the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare, to ensure the safety of the minors.
