Peace Negotiations Between Iran and the U.S.: Pending Conditions to Begin

The Iranian Parliament Speaker, Mohamad Baqer Qalibaf, stated that the United States has not met two essential conditions to initiate peace negotiations in Pakistan. In a message posted on his official ‘X’ account, Qalibaf emphasized that a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of frozen Iranian assets are required. “Two of the mutually agreed measures between the parties remain to be implemented: a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of frozen Iranian assets before the negotiations begin,” he expressed.

The talks are scheduled to start tomorrow in Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator between Iran and the United States. Meanwhile, U.S. Vice President JD Vance departed for Islamabad and expressed optimism about the outcome of the negotiations, although he was cautious in adding, “we’ll see, of course.” However, Iran’s participation is in doubt due to recent Israeli attacks in Lebanon, which have left over 300 dead. Tehran has insisted that the ceasefire is part of the necessary agreement to commence negotiations. In the meantime, Israel has indicated its intention to continue attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, despite calls for moderation.
